One
of the greatest kickboxers in the sport, an accomplished fight choreographer,
author and actor, Benny Urquidez was nicknamed "The Jet" by
his peers for the speed and accuracy of his infamous "Jump Spinning
Back Kick".
Benny was born in 1951 to a family of professional athletes. Mom was
a professional wrestler, dad was a professional boxer, and his siblings
were all black belts. He started training at the young age of 5, and
since then has earned black belts in nine different styles of martial
arts. As a teenager, he chose to pioneer Full Contact Karate over pro
boxing, and in 1974, he introduced Full Contact Karate, aka American
Karate to the US. Later, he founded a new martial art discipline known
as Ukidokan Karate which means "a way of life", and is based
on training for strengthening one's ability to deal with emotions under
pressure.
Over the years "The Jet" has registered an unsurpassed professional fighting record with 200 plus wins and 0 losses. His World Title Defense Record stands at 3 wins and 0 losses, with 57 knock outs. Of all his fights, two very memorable ones have marked his life. In the first one, which was his debut in Japan, he took on the Japanese lightweight champion Katsuyuki Suzuki, and shocked the audience with his victory. The Japanese have since convinced themselves that Urquidez has oriental blood in him, and made him the central hero in a series of comic books called "Benny The Jet". Next>>
