Gokor Chivichyan

Gokor Chivichyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia on May 10, 1963. He was an aggressive kid who was influenced by his grandfather’s love and ability to fight as a bare-knuckle boxing champion. Gokor started training in sport Sambo when he was 5 years old. Over the years, he entered and successfully competed in countless Armenian National and Soviet National championship tournaments, often competing and winning against kids in higher age categories. Gokor was introduced to new styles of fighting like Judo and Combat Sambo. He was a determined fighter, hard worker and quick learner. In 1977 and 1978, Gokor became the Soviet National Judo champion in his age division. In that same year, he became the Soviet National champion in Sport Sambo and was given the rank of Master of Sport in Judo and Sambo at the age of 15.

In 1981, Gokor moved to Los Angeles where he continued his successful career as a world class martial artist. He fought and defeated opponents in Japan and Thailand and added more weapons to his arsenal such as Boxing and Thai Boxing.
In 1987, Gokor won the Gold Medal in the Judo World cup championship, and in 1994 he ranked first place at the US National Judo Championship, as well as the Northwest Judo Senior World Cup championship.

Today, Gokor teaches and holds seminars all over the world. He owns and operates the Hayastan Dojo in Hollywood, which is considered one of the best martial arts schools in the world. His school is closely affiliated with Grand Master Gene LeBell’s Grappling World and many of his students are current and former champions of prestigious national and international tournaments.

This 7 time world champion, 5 time European champion and winner of over 400 professional fight matches is not only an unsurpassed fighter but also a true Armenian at heart. A national hero who makes every Armenian proud.
